大數(shù)據(jù)圍繞大眾的生活，當(dāng)中以零售行業(yè)較多採用數(shù)據(jù)分析的方法，以達(dá)至精準(zhǔn)營銷。全球最經(jīng)典的例子莫過于沃爾瑪（Walmart）的“尿片與啤酒”。

十多年前，沃爾瑪管理層在分析銷售數(shù)據(jù)時(shí)，發(fā)現(xiàn)風(fēng)馬牛不相及的啤酒與尿片，兩者之間存在微妙關(guān)系。原來在美國家庭中，母親在家照顧嬰兒時(shí)，父親會(huì)負(fù)責(zé)到超市購買尿片。做父親的除了買尿片外，亦不忘購買啤酒慰勞自己，于是尿片與啤酒兩者銷售相得益彰。那么，公司在推銷尿片與營銷啤酒時(shí)就有了莫大的關(guān)聯(lián)。

大數(shù)據(jù)，意指一堆數(shù)據(jù)背后蘊(yùn)含大量密碼，通過分析破解，從而挖掘當(dāng)中的價(jià)值。除了商業(yè)營銷，大數(shù)據(jù)還可應(yīng)用在信息安全上。

根據(jù)“本福特法則”（Benford'sLaw），即在一堆生活數(shù)據(jù)中，可檢查各種數(shù)據(jù)有否造假，即使一幀照片也可查出真假。

又如信用卡，當(dāng)網(wǎng)上數(shù)據(jù)庫被木馬程式攻擊，便會(huì)發(fā)出特殊徵兆，以反映用戶脫離慣性行為，從而作出預(yù)警。又例如，通過搜索引擎的大數(shù)據(jù)，企業(yè)通過分析、評估社會(huì)或會(huì)爆發(fā)的疾病，做到預(yù)防、避免傳染病在社區(qū)爆發(fā)。

還有通過大數(shù)據(jù)顛覆傳統(tǒng)行業(yè)的例子，早前成為本港熱話的叫車軟件Uber，公司利用收集所得數(shù)據(jù)評估市場狀況，因應(yīng)市場變化進(jìn)行需求預(yù)測，從而調(diào)整供應(yīng)和收費(fèi)。

此外，要論真正運(yùn)用大數(shù)據(jù)例子，非Google地圖上的導(dǎo)航系統(tǒng)功能莫屬。香港資訊科技商會(huì)榮譽(yù)會(huì)長方保僑指出，只要駕車人士開啟手機(jī)上的定位系統(tǒng)，Google Map通過接收相關(guān)數(shù)據(jù)和分析，便能準(zhǔn)確提供路面的情況資料，例如交通是否暢順或塞車。
